Guyra Shire: Lifestyle

Guyra offers a unique blend of recreational activities and facilities from excellent trout fishing, bird watching, fossicking, bush walking, museums, gorgeous parks and picnic areas. The main street has a fantastic array of speciality and boutique stores as well as great cafès that offer a wide selection of locally grown produce. If sport is more your style, Guyra offers something for you too! There are many playing fields, tennis courts, a swimming pool, bowling greens and a golf course. Guyra’s most famous event is the annual lamb and Potato festival which celebrates the area’s rich agricultural history and allows everyone to sample some of Guyra’s fabulous produce. The festival is a drawcard for many tourists and locals love to show off their gorgeous town.

With the lagoons and spectacular waterfalls, Guyra offers a unique natural environment. The Mother of Ducks Lagoon is in a silted volcano some 14 km in circumference. It is a valuable high altitude wetland and attracts many varieties of bird species from here and overseas. New England National Park is a World Heritage listed park for bushwalkers, sightseers and campers. Walking tracks range from half-day to full day treks. Point Lookout offers spectacular views over the escarpment and panoramas to the north, east and south.
