This picturesque country town on the beautiful New England Tablelands is the gateway to Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. The Walcha area is home to the magnificent Macleay Gorges and boasts some 205,000 hectares of dedicated national parks, wilderness and state forest. Parts of the Werrikimbe National Park are World Heritage listed. Outdoor activities include bushwalking, camping and picnics in beautiful national parks. Highlights in this rugged gorge country include Apsley Waterfalls, Tia Waterfall, Budds Mare Lookout and Riverside. Werrikimbe and Willi Willi national parks offer excellent camping and bushwalking amongst ancient Antarctic Beech trees.

Public Transport

• Local bus service to Armidale each Tuesday, to Tamworth once a month and each Thursday between local communities.
• 45 minute drive to  Armidale Airport provides daily connections to Sydney and Brisbane
• 1 hour and 15 minute drive to Tamworth Regional Airport which provides daily connections to Sydney and Brisbane and twice weekly to Melbourne.
• Daily North West Xplorer train service to and from Sydney (including Armidale and Tamworth)

 Brisbane - 526km in 6 hours
